Feeling “starving” with 10 famous cuisine quarters in Hanoi

The common point of these quarters are the respective quality of restaurants and food stalls with acceptably cheap price . Bellows are five among 10 famous cuisine quarters you should not ignore to enjoy in Hanoi.

  1. Hoan Kiem Lake Quarter with sweet and sour grated salad

In Hanoi, when talking to dried beef salad, you will be reminded to Hoan Kiem Lake Quarter. It is nearly  300-meter street but you can find a dozen salad stalls with rows of tables and chairs on the pavement.

Dried beef salad dish here still consists of the familiar ingredients like grated green papaya, dried beef, basil, roasted peanuts, all are mixed with sweet and sour sauce. With prices are ranging from 35,000 VND/ one plate and the convenient position right in the center of the Old Quarter , this quarter always attract visitors regardless of winter or summer. And it is difficult to say which stalls have the best dishes.

Location: near Hoan Kiem lake. You can look straight to Sword Lake.

  1. Wood Bridge Seafood Quarter ( Cau Go Quarter)

Not far away from Hoan Kiem Lake Quarter there a Quarter called a very western name in the pass: Rue Du Pont En Bois. This place was previously renowned for fresh tea but now has become famous for sidewalk seafood Quarter of Hanoi. Open from 5pm till late at night, nearly dozens of seafood restaurant are always crowded with visitors. From the luxurious dishes such as lobster, abalone, snout to the popular dishes such as snails, clams … all are always ready to serve you. Each shop has a secret of tasteful sauce which really brings its own characteristics.

Location: next to Hang Bong Quarter, the first street of Hang Dao near Nguyen Huu Huan Street.

  1. To Tich fruits “soup” Quarter

Noone remembers when To Tich Quarter has suddenly  been known as the Quarter of fruits “soup”. A fruits cup in To Tich includes jackfruit, mango, pear, apple, watermelon, longan, dragon … all are chopped and added the condensed milk, coconut milk, then mixed well with grind ice. With 18.000 VND, you can taste the cool and impressive flavor of many kinds of fruit. The street is always busy, especially in the summer.

  1. Ta Hien fresh beer Quarter

Although the quarter is only 100 meters long but Ta Hien is one of “hot” place in the Old Quarter area, attracts a large number of foreign tourists and young Vietnamese everyday when the late afternoon comes. The specialty of Ta Hien is fresh beer – with a very affordable price, only 5,000 VND/cup. Only with plastic chairs  and desks, you can sit conveniently chatting with friends and watching the crowded and bustling life around the Quarter.

  1. Gam Cau “ pigs’ intestine” grilled Quarter

Right on the foot of the bridge, Gam Cau Quarter has been a familiar place for those who are “addicted” to drinking dishes. Gam Cau restaurants serve a variety of grilled dishes: grilled cows’ and pig’s breasts, grilled pigs’ stomach, grilled bacon … all are attractively marinated, then grilled under coal to have enough tasty flavors : spicy, salty, sweet.

Around 5 – 6 pm, there are customers coming to barbeque restaurants here, but the busiest hour here is around 8 p.m. Especially in the dark and cold winter or the busy New Year’s Day, many people wander the Old Quarter and gather here which make this place more crowded than ever.

  1. Phung Hung hotpot Quarter

Being the first street in Hanoi specializing in hotpot, especially being open till late night, Phung Hung has become “rendezvous” for those who love this warm dish. It is hard to choose the stall from the beginning to the end of the street. There are many restaurants’ signs with all kinds of hotpot: black chicken hotpot, seafood hotpot, beef hotpot, fish hot pot, Hong Kong hotpot, … The price is affordable, just from 250.000-300.000 VND/ a pot. This street is always busy every night.

  1. Ly Van Phuc grilled chicken feet

At night, when going across Nguyen Thai Hoc street, perhaps no one is not paying attention to the small streets crowded with smoke and delicious smell surrounding. Grilled chicken feet in Ly Van Phuc street has so far become a “brand” by tasteful flavor and the affordable prices.

Recipes here are primarily in skills of marinating chicken with honey and other spices then grilled over the charcoal until it is well cooked inside but the outside is a yellow crispy and fragrant. Along with grilled chicken feet, chicken wings, baked potatoes or butter bread is very popular dishes for the young.

  1. Hoe Nhai Beefsteak Quarter

From the early time, Hoe Nhai Street had only 2 beefsteak restaurants. However, the small street has become “street of beefsteak” with a large number of beefsteak sandwiches restaurants in Hanoi.

If you visit the street for the first time, you will surely dazzled in front of the beefsteak stalls closely lying together and do not know where to enjoy. A beefsteak serving in most stalls in Hoe Nhai are basically the same which includes  beef, pate, omelet, pork meatballs, onions, tomatoes … just the taste is slightly different. Although the quality is not very excellent but affordable prices and quick service bring many customers and a busy time for almost all restaurants here every night.

  1. Ngu Xa noodle roll Quarter

Noodle roll dish is given to the “speciality” of Ha Thanh ( Ha Citadel). To make the dish, you use flat noodle to roll the ingredients and put in sweet and sour sauce. To the residents in Hanoi, mentioning noodle roll is called out the name Ngu Xa – the small street by Truc Bach lake.

Around Ngu Xa village now has a lot of noodle roll stalls. Each restaurants has its own unique flavor. The experience through the stalls here and find a suitable delicious one is really a challenge for the young.

Location: Ngu Xa Quarter, Ba Dinh District, near Pho Duc Chinh Street.

  1. West Lake Snail Quarter

Walking around the West Lake, you will easily catch the snails, seafood stalls lying closely with rows of plastic tables and chairs on the pavement. The food stalls start serving from 3pm and bustle until 12 pm at midnight. Not the best place in “snail map” in Hanoi but many people still prefer West Lake for rich nutrition, fresh and delicious flavor.

Those are familiar dishes such as boiled snails, snails fried with coconut, steamed clams, oysters grilled with onion … Perhaps the open space suitable to gather friends, West Lake Street always attracts many people every day.
