Cai Mon Church – Ben Tre
Cai Mon Church in Vinh Bac Hamlet, Vinh Thanh Commune, at the foot of the large Cai Mon Bridge, is one of the oldest churches in the South, built in 1872. Here you will be surprised to see the nine-floor bell tower with a height of 56.52m, among them 6 bells were made in France.
The church is now the home to most parishioners in Vinh Thanh Commune and some neighboring communes. Opposite the church is the stone stele to memorize Truong Vinh Ky, one of 18 famous scholars in XIX century.
Cai Be Church – Tien Giang
Cai Be Church (Cai Be Town, Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province) is located in a very beautiful position, right at the confluence of Cai Be River, facing straight to Cai Be floating market.
The church was built in the early twentieth century in the style of Roman architecture with reinforced concrete and wide cool campus. The exterior of the church has elaborate sophisticated decorations from the main door, windows, to the smallest details of the church.
The bell tower was decorated with many small towers, with four bell made in France in 1931 with the most advanced technology at that time.
Below the tower there is a water cellar to magnify the sound of the bell. Inside the church there is a tomb of Tran Ba Loc, owner of Cai Be district in the French colonial period. Many people think Cai Be church is the most beautiful church of the Southwest.
Cha Diep Church – Bac Lieu
Cha Diep Church – the resting place of Rev. Truong Buu Diep, is the familiar destination of visitors when coming to Bac Lieu. Located in Hamlet 2, Tan Long commune, Gia Rai district, Bac Lieu province, the church is also called Tac Say church. Formerly a small secluded church, now Tac Say church has changed into a large, beautiful and holy church.
Certainly you will be amazed at the strange, unique, majestic architecture of the church with 3 floors: the ground floor is used as a resting place, the second and third floor is the place where rituals are organized with a very wide hall.
Rev. Diep’s resting place looks like a building with three large roofs. There is a large clock in the central roof to create a highlight for the building. Inside, there are many sophisticated carved wooden statues, featuring Catholic beliefs.
Vinh Long Church
Vinh Long Church with the title of St. Anna – Mother Mary is located at 141 Ly Thai To, right in the center of Vinh Long city.
In the past, there was no church in the area of Vinh Long, undergoing ups and downs, the Vinh Long Church was completed in 1967 and became a familiar place not only for people in the city but also of the visitors.
Mac Bac Church – Vinh Long
Mac Bac Church is one of the greatest and most ancient parishes in the South West, built in 1886, completed in 1888, covering an area of 24x60m, with a 36m-high bell tower, was considered the second largest church in the South at the time, just after the Notre Dame Cathedral – Saigon.
The church’s building was commanded by a French architect, and the building materials were also taken from France. With a very ancient, elegant and harmonious architectural style, the Mac Bac Church has remained stable for nearly 130 years. Nowadays, it is a place for parishioners and tourist come to admire and worship.
My Tho Cathedral
My Tho Cathedral is located on Hung Vuong Avenue, the third church of My Tho, was built in 1906 and completed in 1910. The church is 24m high, 17m wide and 53m long with a main hall and two smaller ones. The church is very eye-catching with huge supporting columns and European-style dome.
If you go deep into the church, you will see on each doorway is a very sophisticated and unique decorative patterns. The beautiful impressive Renaissance Greek architecture in Rome seems to revive in this church.
Nowadays, the church is more than 100 years old, but still so remarkable with ancient beauty as well as solemn and formal atmosphere.
